Ryan Fazio’s Healthcare Record: Repeal the ACA, Cut Medicaid, Leave Families Exposed
Ryan Fazio’s health care record is not complicated: Worse, more expensive coverage, with fewer insured. Fazio has advocated for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, rejected state action to lower costs, voted against protections for patients and families, and wants to cut Medicaid to pay for a tax plan built on questionable math at best.
Fazio’s record tells the story:
Ryan called to repeal the ACA. In a 2017 Medium post, Fazio effusively praised Sen. Ted Cruz and called for “full repeal and replacement” of the Affordable Care Act and described the law as a “massive wealth redistribution scheme.” Fazio later deleted the essay.
Ryan believes you have no right to healthcare. In a 2019 Federalist piece titled “No, You Don’t Have A ‘Right’ To ‘Free’ Health Care,” Fazio framed universal healthcare as an attempt to seize “the labor of others.” He said the suggestion that healthcare was a right was “backward and barbaric.”
Ryan voted against lowering health insurance costs. In 2025, Fazio voted no on a bipartisan healthcare and patient protection bill that passed the Senate 31–5. Governor Lamont signed the measure into law, which strengthened patient protections, reduced mental healthcare coverage gaps, and reined in insurers..
Ryan voted against the emergency funding Connecticut used to fill in the gaps caused by Trump’s cuts to SNAP and healthcare. Fazio railed against the $500 million Federal Cuts Response Fund, but provided no plan of his own for Connecticut residents who would lose healthcare or pay higher premiums under Trump’s plan.
Now Ryan wants to cut Medicaid. Fazio’s tax plan calls for slashing Medicaid funding by roughly $336 million – despite relying on fantasy math that reporting has already described as out of step with fiscal reality.
CT Dems spokesperson Ian Clarke:
“On healthcare Ryan Fazio has only one answer for Connecticut families: you are on your own. He’s against the ACA, against cost relief, against basic patient protections from insurers, and against acting to save Connecticut residents from Trump’s war on healthcare. The only thing he does support is gutting Medicaid funding and the childcare endowment to paper over his own bad math. Connecticut Families truly cannot trust Ryan Fazio with their healthcare.
