Erin Stewart Spends Taxpayer Dollars on Personal Shopping Spree
Serious ethical scandals concerning former mayor Erin Stewart continue to mount and dog her gubernatorial campaign. A new report following a FOIA request from the Hartford Courant revealed Stewart used her New Britain city credit card to buy blatantly personal items from Amazon, Costco, and other retailers for years.
According to the Courant, Stewart charged over $200,000 on the taxpayer-funded card, shipping a minimum of $22,600 of items to her house, including but not limited to:
Women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing.
A salad spinner.
Beach and pool toys.
Cosmetics and a lighted vanity mirror.
Bed linens and home decorations.
Diapers and groceries.
She charged taxpayers for “the services of a makeup artist” and $1,374 for a “company that prints invitations to wedding showers” shortly before her wedding.
Incredibly, she designated these items as office supplies and had them delivered to her house. Stewart even bought Donald Trump-themed decorations for her husband’s 40th birthday and an $18,000 private club membership for herself.
This is yet another ethics scandal for Stewart, who refuses to answer questions about tax corruption, her failure to report bribe offers, and her brazen attempt to get a self-awarded, legally baseless pension.
Statement from CT Dems spokesperson Ian Clarke:
“Yet again, we learn a story about Erin Stewart serving herself instead of the people who elected her. On top of allegedly backdating tax bills for preferred individuals, she also apparently viewed her constituents as one large Amazon gift card. The people of New Britain deserve an apology and full repayment for all improper purchases.
Exactly how many more taxpayer-funded shoes are going to drop?”
