Lyin’ Ryan: Fazio Invents Fictional Pushback on Iran

Ryan Fazio’s difficult relationship with the truth is not a new phenomenon. However, even for Ryan, his provable lies about standing up to Trump at the eleventh hour are a new low.

During Thursday night’s debate, Ryan claimed that he has stood up to Donald Trump, particularly on the war in Iran:

“I oppose the war in Iran. I've said it repeatedly,” Fazio said during the debate. “I'm more of a non-interventionist. I actually respect that in 2006 when Ned Lamont ran for the Senate in opposition to the Iraq War, I think he was right at the time, and I've been critical of the decision to go into Iran.”

He repeated the same line in the post-debate interview:

“I was also critical and have been critical on tariffs and deficit spending and certainly the war.”

There is no other way to put it. Ryan Fazio is a liar, making up stories as he goes. Here are the facts:

The war in Iran began with Donald Trump’s initial strikes on February 28 of this year. The Connecticut GOP cheered it on.

Not only has Ryan Fazio never criticized the President, but he refused to share a single thought on the war for the next seven months.

There are no recorded statements to reporters. Searching “Trump”, “war”, or “Iran” on Ryan’s prolific social media accounts yields zero results.  Fazio has relied extensively on the dodge that he is far too focused on state issues to even express an opinion about a top issue for the overwhelming majority of Connecticut voters.

At a campaign event, Ryan answered a question on the war by saying of Democrats raising objections to his silence that “if they want to be, uh, you know, talking heads on MSNBC, they should do a job application at MSNBC or CNN.”

The Connecticut Democratic Party directly called on Ryan Fazio to comment on the war multiple times without an answer.

In reality, Ryan said that he disagreed with the war for the first time on October 7. 16 days ago.

He is welcome to offer a shred of proof to substantiate his attempt to take credit for something he lacked the courage to actually do.

Statement from CT Democratic Party spokesperson Ian Clarke:

“Ryan Fazio is welcome to try to spin his record of selling out Connecticut families and advocating for cuts to healthcare, but he’s not entitled to blatantly lie about what he's said in this campaign.

Ryan didn’t say a single word about the Iran War for seven months. If he really opposed it, perhaps he should have said something as Donald Trump threatened to commit war crimes, got at least 21 American service members killed, and forced the average family more than $2,000 in gas prices and other expenses."
