Fazio Again Fails Intro Class on Basic Research

Ryan Fazio again failed to pass a rudimentary fact-check at a press conference this morning, where he unveiled a nonsensical property tax plan.

We already know Ryan Fazio and his allies often fail to do their homework on economic issues. For example, Fazio and his Senate GOP caucus failed to even produce an actual budget proposal for the third year in a row. Not to mention their February policy package that analysts immediately projected “would eliminate nearly all surplus funds in future years” and jeopardize the expansion of affordable childcare.

We already knew he struggled to stick to the facts after his first campaign speech was easily picked apart by basic fact-checking

Despite consisting of two vague pages of bullet points, Fazio’s plan also makes basic errors. For instance, it cites ‘Waterbury Community College’ as an example – failing to realize that this college does not exist.

This has become a consistent pattern for Fazio. He votes against the pragmatic efforts of Democratic lawmakers to deliver relief to Connecticut families, then shows up with flimsy ideas that serve as press conference props rather than actual policy.

Connecticut Democratic Party spokesperson Ian Clarke in response to Ryan Fazio’s property tax reform press conference:

“Like most of Ryan Fazio’s policy proposals, this so-called plan is full of vague, unachievable bullet points that have no basis in reality. His campaign didn’t even bother to do enough basic research to realize, for example, that ‘Waterbury Community College’ is not a real institution that exists. He would have done a better job if he asked ChatGPT to write up a plan to address property taxes.

Governor Lamont and Democratic lawmakers have an actual record of prioritizing relief to our communities and taxpayers – including the bipartisan budget that delivered critical, direct aid to municipalities and school districts to help lower property taxes. Fazio voted against that too.”
