Shays Makes Race to the Right Official

Former Congressman Chris Shays has been running for US Senate since filing his candidacy last October but today, he’ll “officially” launch his campaign. And while today’s announcement will earn him some media attention, it won’t change his record – which Connecticut voters already once rejected.

But it will make his race to the right against the second-time multimillionaire Senate candidate, Linda McMahon, official.

“Connecticut voters have not forgotten why they voted Chris Shays out of office in the first place,” said Connecticut Democratic Party Chair Nancy DiNardo. “He supported the disastrous policies that caused one of the worst recessions in generations.

“Over the last few years, Republicans in Washington have stood in the way of every opportunity to move our country forward, defended tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans while putting relief for working families at risk, and even brought the country to the brink of default with their refusal to compromise. The fact is that Chris Shays and Linda McMahon would do nothing in Washington but serve as rubber stamps for an agenda built on obstructionism and extreme ideas.

“Now that his candidacy is official, I fully expect Chris Shays and Linda McMahon to spend the next few months pandering to their party’s fringe, all the while showing voters just how out of touch they both are with Connecticut values. Connecticut voters have rejected Shays, McMahon and the extreme Republican agenda in the past, and I believe that they will reject them yet again this November.”
